Armored Truck Roll Over

It doesn’t matter how great a driver you are or the weather conditions. Accidents happen.

When this armored truck flipped over while avoiding interfering traffic it took more than a typical tow truck to right it.

With these vehicles sometimes topping out at 55,000 pounds, over 27 tons only a heavy duty tow truck like the ones used by Big Rig Towing can do the job.

Fortunately no one was injured and the armored truck was rescued.

Wrong Way to Make an Omelet

Icy conditions led to this rig tipping over and sliding off the road. Luckily the hydro lines stayed up and no one was hurt.

Unfortunately the cargo wasn’t so lucky. Most of the thousands of eggs traveling in this trailer didn’t make it. Fortunately the hydro lines didn’t come down or it could have been the world’s biggest omelet.

Big Rig Towing is called to many different scenarios and often work with any number of our provinces other services. In this case they work hand in hand with Fortis an Alberta Electricity Provider to clear the lines and recover the big rig.

Deerfoot Rescue

The Deerfoot Trail transects the city of Calgary. A busy 3-lane freeway with a 100 km an hour speed limit, it takes traffic south to north across the city and onto Edmonton. The city of Calgary has a very cool safety feature – that is, a free service to all those who run out of gas or break down in their cars along this crowded stretch of road.

That’s right, if your car breaks down, you have a flat, or even if you run out of gas the city has tow trucks patrolling 24/7 and will aid or tow you to the nearest safety zone located every so many km along the route.

While this is an awesome service it unfortunately does not include big rigs and other heavy equipment.

Big Rig Towing & Recovery specializes in this type of tow. Even though it may seem benign compared to rescuing big trucks from icy mountain passes or dragging them out of watery irrigation ditches and rivers, hooking up and towing on a busy highway at rush hour can be equally as dangerous as any mountain road.

If your rig is stranded on any Alberta road call an expert like Big Rig Towing and stay safe.

Snow Coach TLC

If you have ever been to the Athabasca Glacier you would have had the thrilling opportunity to ride in a Snow Coach.

A snow coach is a specialized passenger transport vehicle, specifically designed to be able to operate on ice or snow. They are much like a huge, multi-passenger transit bus that is equipped with bus styled seating and extended full height windows to maximize scenic views. With their multiple sets of large low pressure tires they can travel across the vast snow or ice covered glaciers of the Rocky Mountains and deliver passengers to areas that they could not reach on foot.

Snowcoaches are a common sight for tourists on the Athabasca Glacier, just north of Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park, Canada.

This Snow Coach is getting a little TLC at Big Rig Towing where they are giving it an over haul and making it ready for another trip up the glaciers of Canada’s National Parks

This week hurricane force winds blew through Alberta knocking down trees, whipping up grass fires and blowing over a number of rigs.

This force of nature kept Big Rig Towing on its toes dealing with a number of rollovers.

Fortunately no one was injured in these incidents and here at Big Rig Towing we train for the unexpected and were able to recover these rigs.

Sometimes You Gotta Be Lucky

Sometimes you just gotta be lucky. This rig used up lottery luck when it ended up hanging from an overpass near Lake Louise.

Fortunately no one was injured and flying debris from the trailer missed a passing freight train.

Big Rig Towing was called to the scene and was able to haul the damaged rig, using it’s seventy five ton rotator, back onto the highway so it could be loaded onto a flat deck and taken back to Calgary.

When You Think You’ve Seen Everything

When this forklift decided to try and escape through the floor of this trailer Big Rig Towing was called to bring their 75 Ton Rotator to give it a lift. After making an adjustment to the roof of the trailer the Rotor made quick work of getting the forklift out and back to work.

Crane VS Crane

Because we are called Big Rig Towing that’s mostly what we do. But it’s not all that we do.

Big Rig Towing can do anything that a heavy crane can do and more.

In this case we needed to load four cranes onto a truck for transport. Our 75 ton rotator crane made quick work of the job.

We don’t tow cars but if it’s a big rig, truck or something that’s heavy enough to need a crane, we can get the job done.

Two Can Play at That Game

Big Rig Towing was called to the far reaches of Northern Alberta, and contracted Jamie Davis Towing to assist in a touchy recovery.

Near Fort McMurray, on what is commonly referred to as the Highway Thru Hell, this heat exchanger was separated from its rig and ended up in the ditch. The exchanger unit weighs 60,000 pounds and is worth a staggering $1,000,000.00!

It took two large rotators worked in tandem to seamlessly recover this precious cargo without further damage.

After two day of planning, examining and hard work the exchanger was flawlessly loaded onto a trailer and sent back to the manufacturer for repairs.

The expertise of both these companies and operators saved the exchanger from incurring any more damage and saved the happy client thousands more in repair.
