Not every job is a complicated hookup or rotator-coordinated event

Not all Big Rig Towing jobs are the recovery of crashed or stuck rigs. Sometimes it’s as simple as a big, unexpected wet and heavy snowfall.

When a parked rig has a large accumulation of snow on its roof you can’t just take off down the road. If you do, and the truck gets up to speed, a few hundred pounds of that wet, heavy snow could fly off and cause serious damage to the vehicles following, or worse, send a trailing vehicle into an oncoming lane. Definitely not a desired situation.

Not all solutions have to be complicated hookups or rotator-coordinated events either. This snow removal campaign was remedied by hooking up a volunteer shoveller to the rotator and hoisting them on top of the rig to get rid of its snowy burden.

Snow & ice on the road can be serious business

Ice is particularly dangerous precisely because it’s hard to detect in advance and ice-covered roads make driving much more dangerous. These pictures are from a recovery last season just west of Hwy 40 up by Burnt Timber. The road was pure ice.

Winter weather elements can be a challenge to negotiate out on the highway and can cause harrowing risks. So take this as a word of caution: take special care to avoid danger or mistakes and make sure you know when it’s time to get off the road!

You may not be in a precarious position today but with many winter months ahead you can never be too pro-active. We’re available 24/7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements anytime, anywhere. Be proactive and take note of Big Rig’s toll free number (866) 398-7444

Here’s your annual reminder to make sure your load’s secure

The danger in trucking isn’t always with poor road conditions or weather. It can be as simple as just not tying down your load properly.

So why risk it? Know which tie-downs to use and how to safely strap down your load so it does not shift or affect your centre of balance.

How many times have you seen a big truck with an even bigger load trying to negotiate around a tight corner looking like it was going to topple over? Or a flat deck with a load wider than the deck and not looking like it was centered? You can tie it down but if it’s not in the right place to begin with you’re going to have issues.

Big Rig Towing lifted this heavy 65,000 pound steel coil from it’s deck after it shifted during transport. Not an easy task to pick it up and transfer it to another trailer, but having state-of-the-art equipment makes a huge difference.

In the event this happens to you Big Rig is here to help. Just call toll free 1 (866) 398-7444 for 24/7 service.

Be proactive – take note of Big Rig’s toll free number (866) 398-7444

It’s only a matter of time before winter rolls in to stay for awhile and as Canadians we all know that winter weather can be a challenge to negotiate out on the highway.

Sometimes it is almost impossible to see where the road ends and the ditch begins. Add blowing snow to the mix and the situation can get pretty sketchy in a split second. Under extreme conditions it is a testament to the drivers of big rigs that more don’t end up in the ditch.

When temperatures go below -30 ending up in the ditch, whether its day or night, presents a whole new set of problems. Not just for the driver of the rig, but for the tow truck operators as well. Keeping warm and safe while working with thousands of pounds of frozen steel is a difficult process. Because the human body is mostly made up of water and we know that water freezes at -32C, getting stuck in the ditch on a -40 night becomes more of a rescue than a tow.

The temperatures haven’t dipped that low yet, but why not be proactive and take note of Big Rig’s toll free number (866) 398-7444. Anywhere, any time, we’re available 24/7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements.

When your home away from home breaks down

Recreational vehicles are the perfect way to get away from it all. These days big Class A motor home RVs are like tiny houses. Generally if well maintained they rarely break down, but they are motorized vehicles and despite your best planning and preparation for camping and life in the great outdoors, there will be occasional times that operating issues will occur.

When your home away from home is on wheels and it breaks down, you want to make sure you get someone who has experience towing these types of oversized vehicles — that is, the right company for the job. Fortunately, Big Rig Towing has had lots of practice towing this type of motor home.

If you find yourself in a stressful situation call 1 (866) 398-7444 for 24/7 service.

In the meantime, remember to take extra precautions when you’re broken down on the side of the road — stay calm and stay safe while you’re awaiting our arrival.

Unfortunate meltdown!

No matter how careful we try to be, accidents happen. When it’s a big rig travelling with a heavy load at great speeds on the highway it can make for an unpleasant disaster. While this may not look like much more than a simple rollover, this rig was carrying thousands of popsicles when it went off the road and tipped over!

The good news in this accident is that the driver wasn’t hurt (unbelievably) but can’t say the same for the popsicles on board. Heatwave or no heatwave frozen popsicles on a stick will never survive!

If your rig has had an unfortunate rollover and needs to be up-righted, it’s time to call Big Rig Towing – always prepared for the challenge of a big rig rescue and recovery.

Zoom boom trouble!

“A Zoom Boom, or telescopic lift truck, is a powered industrial truck used to lift and move materials short distances. It falls under the same training requirements as a lift truck or forklift, and it has lift capacities ranging from 5,500 to 12,000 lbs and can reach heights up to 55 feet.”

Even the best, reliable, high-performance equipment can get stuck up to its axles in wet soft ground after heavy rains. That’s exactly what occurred in this Zoom boom situation in a residential area in the image below.

It is inevitable that inconveniences will happen in the world of heavy equipment and unstable weather. If it happens to you Big Rig Towing & Recovery is here to help. We’re available 24/7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements. Just call 1 (866) 398-7444 and we’ll come to the rescue!
