Big Rig to the Rescue

As a truck driver there are many perks to being your own boss, like independence at work and making good money. In fact, many perks come with a truck driver’s schedule, not the least of which is a unique view of the country enroute to your destination.

To be profitable however, a driver’s number one priority is to get your load delivered to its destination on time. If you break down on the road it can be costly. Not to mention the inconvenience and the cost of the downtime.

Big Rig was recently called to the scene in this very busy commercial area to remove a stalled truck delivering rubber tires. One can only imagine the frustration this situation caused. Preventative maintenance is the key and it’s vital to ensure you don’t put off your truck maintenance.

On occasion though, these inconveniences happen in a truck driver’s world. If it happens to you Big Rig is here to help. Big Rig Towing & Recovery is available 24-7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements.

Keep this number on hand 1 (866) 398-7444. You just may be glad you did.

Calgary Fire Department Training

Last weekend Big Rig Towing did it’s annual training session with the Calgary Fire Department.

These training sessions not only provide valuable lessons for our local Fire Department in the use of heavy recovery equipment like Big Rigs 75 ton rotator but also help keep our teams on the ready for any emergency that may arise with rigs and large equipment on the road.

Emergency? Need a tow truck rotator?

A tow truck rotator is essentially a big crane mounted to the deck of the tow truck. It can be used for everything from:

  • lifting heavy machinery that has tumbled from the back of a rig
  • lifting a load that has flipped over
  • removing a load from a rig that needs less weight so it can be towed
  • lifting heavy equipment from one place to another
  • assisting in transferring cargo from one rig to another
  • And so much more!

Big Rig Towing has a number of rotator tow trucks and can boast that they have the only 75 ton rotator in southern Alberta. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.

Rollover Rescue

Somehow this roller got turned over in the process of compacting gravel. These 40,000 lb rollers are extremely heavy, but surprisingly it only takes a few degrees off-centre for even something this big to roll. If you’re big and heavy, and overturned, you simply need something bigger and heavier and more rigid to set you upright again.

As you can see from the images below, for this heavy rescue it took a couple of Big Rig’s tow trucks and cranes to upright this roller onto a flatbed.

Big Rig Towing pulls its fair share of hapless rigs and heavy equipment from any number of situations.

Keep Big Rig’s number – 1 (866) 398-7444 – on hand and call for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service if you find yourself in an emergency situation!

Keep your rig in tip-top shape!

Your rig is your livelihood so it’s critical to keep it in perfect condition and operating at peak efficiency.

It is an expensive piece of equipment so keeping it clean and running smoothly is not only a great responsibility that may take some time and maintenance, but more importantly it’s your best defense to avoid trouble while out on the road. After all, you don’t want to worry about forced downtime and loss of time and income.

A well-maintained and properly functioning rig can help to ensure your safety and the safety of the drivers around you as well as add years to the life of your rig.

Before a long haul it’s important that you take the time to check your oil, inspect your radiator and your brakes, top up your fluids, grease moving parts, check the fuel vent, check your tires and of course, ensure your load is secured.

Keeping the interior clean is especially important especially if you’re “living” or spending long periods of time in it. It’s your home away from home and pride of ownership can make a difference to your comfort, your sleep, your quality of life and peace of mind.

Keeping the exterior clean can mean additional safety by cleaning your mirrors and cleaning your windows. By keeping it waxed and polished you add protection to your rig’s longevity.

Be pro-active! Creating your own preventive maintenance checklist for pre-trip inspection is definitely a great habit to get into to ensure everything runs smoothly ahead of time.
