Murphy’s Law

Murphy’s Law: What can go wrong will go wrong.

Just because it says towing in the company name doesn’t mean that’s all we do. Sometimes you have to think out side the box. When this vehicle transport trailer decided to come unhinged we had to rig a sling and use the heavy rotator to move the top vehicle out of the way so the damaged rover could be removed.

Give us a call if you have a heavy lifting dilemma. We can help.

Here’s One to Cry About

This beautiful four day old rig slid into a ditch with it’s load of plywood. Maybe it was because it was only four days old when this happened and it still didn’t have it’s driving legs under it.

Big Rig Towing to the rescue. The rig was pulled out and sent to the shop for repair. We’re all hoping to see you back on the road soon.

Heavy Extrication Training Symposium

On October 22 & 23, 2016 the Alberta Vehicle Extrication Association instructors hosted heavy extrication training for the members of the Canada Task Force 2.

This 2 day theory and hands on course was designed to allow students to think outside the box, apply their skill and knowledge to real world extrication situations when dealing with large scale truck and trailers, bridge collapse incidents etc.

Assisting in the program was Big Rig Towing.

The students worked hand in hand with the tow operators to carefully extract patients from inside the crushed vehicles in these extremely precarious scenarios.

By the end of the course many students were at the helm working the controls of Big Rig Towing’s heavy wreckers under the watchful eye of the company’s owner Rick Paley

Without them there would be no freedom

On Friday November 11, 2016 we pay tribute and remember those members
of the armed forces – some who selflessly sacrificed their own precious lives in the
line of duty — who have served their nation in war, in armed conflict, and in the
effort of sustaining world peace.

Past, present and future we salute those who have served and those who continue
to serve at home and overseas. Without them there would be no freedom.

As the saying goes, spring forward, fall back…

Winter is only weeks away and freezing cold nights aren’t the only major change winter brings. Sunrise and sunset will be an hour earlier so that there’s more light in the morning.

Daylight savings time will end with a “fall back” to standard time on
Sunday November 6, at 2 a.m.

“Daylight Savings Time” is a way of making better use of the daylight in the evenings by setting the clocks forward one hour during the longer days of summer, and back again in the fall.

So, don’t forget to turn back your clocks this weekend and enjoy that extra hour of sleep Saturday night!

Fire Fighter Training

Fire fighters don’t just show up with all the skills needed to engage in every situation. That’s because they don’t just fight fires. Firemen are called out to many different events like brush fires, structure fires, automobile accidents, life-threatening medical emergencies, non-life-threatening medical calls, false alarms and other hazardous situations. To be able to do this they have to have extensive training for all these emergencies.

One of the most stressful is automobile accidents that often involve victims trapped by crushed metal or other vehicles.

How do they prepare for this? Big Rig Towing lends a hand with the ongoing training of firemen and their own crews by helping to set up scenarios that accurately represent these types of accidents under controlled environments at one of the Calgary Fire Department’s training centers.

Burn Out

At Big Rig Towing we aren’t always called out to rescue some rig that has gotten stuck in the snow or a ditch in rough weather. It’s not always an accident where wreckage is strewn all over and there is a broken rig that needs righting or towing.

Sometimes it’s just a large piece of equipment that has met it’s end to soon. Like this big excavator that just got burned out at the job.

We just picked it up and took it to be scrapped.

Off Ramp Rollover

Many times weather and to much speed are the main elements that cause accidents. In this case watch while a rig with just enough speed coupled with inclement weather loses control on an off ramp and hits the ditch.

Big Rig Towing & Community Events

Big Rig Towing has always been involved with the community and whenever possible they are always on hand to put on a great demonstration of how to rescue an overturned rig and really show what the seventy five-ton rotator rig can do

This event at the First Alliance Church in Calgary was raising money for the Sherwood School Breakfast Program and Camp Chestermere both benefitting from the generous support at this event.

Hay Baled

You can never emphasize enough what can happen when you combine too much speed with a tight corner. This 6000 lb load of hay really took a tumble after trying to take a corner with too much speed. Fortunately no one was injured but that is not always the case.

This took more than a tow and a couple of repairs to clean up.
