Stuck in a rut? Big Rig can help!

The D9 Cat is an awesome 23 ft earth-moving bulldozer. Weighing in at anywhere from 8 to 104 tons, this giant can go almost anywhere and move almost anything. However, that kind of weight can also sink pretty fast into mud or soft earth if not kept on the move when trying to plow through it.

It isn’t very often you need help to get this Cat out of the mud, but every now and then even the D9 can get in over its head. Two of our biggest rigs had a hard time getting this Cat unstuck and back to work, but with skill and patience we accomplished the goal.

Anywhere, anytime, Big Rig Towing is available to service all of your heavy-duty towing and recovery requirements. Call (866) 398-7444.

To the rescue!

The Deerfoot Trail transects the city of Calgary. A busy 3-lane freeway with a 100 km an hour speed limit, it takes traffic south to north across the city and onto Edmonton. The city of Calgary has a great safety feature, that is, free service to all those who break down or run out of gas along this crowded stretch of road.

That’s right, if your car breaks down or has a flat, or even if you run out of gas, the city has tow trucks patrolling 24/7 and will aid or tow you to one of the safety zones created every so many kilometres along the route.

While this is a fantastic service it unfortunately does not include big rigs and other heavy equipment.

Big Rig Towing & Recovery specializes in this type of tow. Even though it may seem benign compared to rescuing big trucks from icy mountain passes or dragging them out of watery irrigation ditches and rivers, hooking up and towing on a busy highway at rush hour can be equally as dangerous as any mountain road.

If your rig is stranded on any Alberta road call the experts – Big Rig Towing 1 (866) 398-7444 for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service.

Resolve your towing emergency situation quickly & safely

It’s not always about how far in the ditch the rig is that makes a recovery hard, sometimes it’s the actual load itself. This load of lumber ended up in the ditch with 80,000 lbs on board!

Big Rig Towing spent the best part of the afternoon unloading and hauling the cargo before they could get the rig out of the mud and back on dry pavement.

Here at Big Rig, we have a number of rotator tow trucks and they are constantly in use. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.

Big rig disasters need Big Rig Towing. Call 1 (866) 398-7444 for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service!

Big Rig Training

Towing Big Rig Trucks isn’t always just pulling a truck because of engine failure or mechanical breakdown or winching one from a ditch full of snow or mud because of a missed turn or slippery road conditions. A lot of the times conditions are dangerous with the  need to save cargo and sometimes humans involved in high speed or unusual circumstances. Drivers have to be on high alert. Not just for them selves but for their machinery and anyone else involved in a crash.

That is why Big Rig Towing spends time training for every scenario imaginable and participating at the Global Training Center in Strathmore Alberta keeps their skill set up to standards that far exceed other towing companies.

When a tow gets challenging Big Rig drivers have the skill to get the job done.

Big Rig Training

69th Annual Conference

The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association hosted its 69th Annual Conference and Trade Show at the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, Calgary, Alberta, on Sunday, May 29th and Monday, May 30th, 2016.

In support of this event Big Rig Towing & the Global Training Center set up a static display demonstrating what first responders face on Alberta Highways.

Many event goers were surprised at the role that towing companies like Big Rig Towing play in the rescue and recovery of victims and vehicles involved in accidents on our Provinces highways.

Big Rig Towing regularly participates in training exercises that keep them up to date with the latest methods in rescue techniques and equipment.

Rescue, Recover, Towing

Towing is defined as the process of coupling one object to another, so that one can be pulled along behind the other. It is commonly used to describe the moving of, or in the seizure of, a vehicle.

In Big Rig Towing’s case the terms recovery or rescue is also used along with towing.

Sometimes the recovery of a big rig is not about hooking it up and getting it to repair but more about the logistics of recovering the rig after it has left the road. A somewhat more dangerous scenario than towing a vehicle that is still on its wheels.

Big Rig Towing makes hundreds of these rescue, recoveries every year and while they all present individual challenges they are all resolved at the end of the day.

Big Rig Towing & Recovery to the Rescue

Run Away CatThe city of Calgary called Big Rig Towing to recover this Cat 980 that some kids decided would be a good vehicle to take for a joy ride.

After losing control on a downhill they ended up in the ditch on their side.

After other attempts to rescue the Cat, Big Rig Towing was called. Because we have a 75 Ton Sliding Rotator and more than one 50 ton wrecker we can do some of the big jobs that others cannot.

This Cat weighed 70,000 lbs but was soon back on its wheels. Unfortunately with $100,000 in damages.

Once again, Big Rig Towing & Recovery to the rescue.

Rock and Roll

During the recent flooding in Calgary not just homes were flooded but a huge number of vehicles were left stranded and ruined by the rising water.

These two 6500 pound rock trucks were two of the many big vehicles that needed to be rolled onto flatbeds and towed to repaired after water destroyed their engines.

Big Rig Towing gets calls for any number of recovery and towing situations. This tow proved to be one that was less dangerous than some but not without its challenges because of the size of these huge trucks.

School Test

When a school needs new portables to accommodate its students, that’s a good thing. It means that more kids are getting an education and the classroom space they need to do that is being made available.

The logistics of moving a 55ft long 25ft wide 4,000 lb portable classroom into its place in a schoolyard takes a lot more math and science than one would think. It takes some pretty heavy machinery and those with the skill to operate that machinery to get the job done right.

Big Rig Towing doesn’t just tow and rescue big trucks and trailers. Our rigs have hundreds of applications and can sometimes get to and do things that cranes and cherry pickers can’t. Like these portable classrooms going into a schoolyard in Calgary.
