75 Ton Rotator Crane Rights Load of Diesel

Big Rig makes hundreds of rescues and recoveries every year and while they all present individual challenges they are all resolved at the end of the day.

This big load of Diesel ended up on it’s side after taking a turn a bit too fast.

Big Rig Towing & Recovery used our 75 Ton Rotator Crane to get it back on its wheels and to repair.

Whoa — a little too tipsy!

Big Rig EmergencyHow many trucks get stuck in the ditch every year because they failed to negotiate a corner correctly or underestimated the steepness of the curb? That would certainly be an interesting statistic.

If you drive professionally, it seems safety and knowing your route, environment, and ultimately cornering, would be the most important aspects of driving a big rig.

This flatbed was transporting a farm sprayer when it pulled over to let a car pass. Yikes — a couple more inches and this could have been a complete rollover.

Big Rig Towing pulls its fair share of hapless rigs and their helpless cargo from southern Alberta ditches. The only good thing about so much practice is that you get really expert at recovery when you do it so often.

Rollover Rescue

Somehow this roller got turned over in the process of compacting gravel. These 40,000 lb rollers are extremely heavy, but surprisingly it only takes a few degrees off-centre for even something this big to roll. If you’re big and heavy, and overturned, you simply need something bigger and heavier and more rigid to set you upright again.

As you can see from the images below, for this heavy rescue it took a couple of Big Rig’s tow trucks and cranes to upright this roller onto a flatbed.

Big Rig Towing pulls its fair share of hapless rigs and heavy equipment from any number of situations.

Close Call

When ever something is  being towed there is always the chance of the load shifting. Even taking a corner just a bit too fast can cause a trailer to capsize. This driver took a corner too tight and fast and caused the trailer to become unhooked. The result was almost disastrous. Fortunately the Audi SUV it was carrying did not leave the deck and Big Rig Towing used their rotator and spreader bar to to roll the trailer and vehicle back on is rubber.

Dangerous Roll Over

Roll overs are always tricky. Even more so when there is dangerous goods involved.

This roll over was no exception. Loaded with crude oil this tanker took some creative thinking on the part of our Big Rig Towing team to recover.

At the end of the day no one was hurt and the tanker was hauled off to the yard for investigation and repair.

Easy Does It

Once in a while it’s easy.

Somehow this truck got turned over in the process of dumping its load of sand. One of the few times where all that was required was to right it and tow it back to the yard.

Just goes to show you though, if you’re not confident in how your truck is positioned or how your load is positioned, then you should always drive away and reset. Better to take a little more time to unload than a lot of time explaining how your truck turned over.

Heavy Grain

Grain is heavier than you might think, especially when there’s tons of it.

We talked about cornering too fast in the past and the dynamics of load and centrifugal forces. Everyone knows if you’re too heavy and too fast over you go.

Luckily no one was hurt in this roll over and Big Rig Towing was able to get this rig back on its rubber with very little damage except for lost cargo.
