In Deep

It’s not always about how far in the ditch the rig is that makes a recovery hard, sometimes it’s the load.

This load of lumber when into the ditch during Calgary’s recent late summer snow storms with 80000 lbs on board.

Big Rig Towing spent the best part of the afternoon unloading and hauling the cargo before they could get the rig out of the mud and back on dry pavement.

What Can You Tow

towing-anythingAccording to Wikipedia towing is the process of coupling one object to another’s, so that one can be pulled along behind the other. The towing source (lead object) is usually a truck or other motorized land vehicle. The coupling may consist of a chain, rope, bar, integrated platform, or some other means of keeping the two objects together while in motion.

So, that being said, not just cars and trucks can be towed but almost anything that will move can be towed.

Just remember that not all vehicles are made to tow and the safety considerations of properly towing another vehicle or object cannot be understated.

When in doubt, hire a professional.

Big Rig Towing.

Flood Damage

Not all towing is confined to broken down or rolled rigs. Sometimes heavy equipment has been damaged and needs the towing power of a big diesel to move it.

Last year’s floods in Calgary not only caused millions of dollars in personal and commercial damage but many vehicles were destroyed as well.

Some of these machines are still in need of rescue and transport a year later.
This earth mover was caught by rising water and suffered catastrophic engine damage.

There is only one way to move something this big.

Big Rig Towing brought in the heavy crane and got it safely stored on this trailer for transport.

Heavy Load

You know something is heavy when you have to use air bags just to get it moving in the right direction.

This rig had 47,000 lbs. on board when it went over.

Big Rig Towing used airbags and the cranes to get it back on its rubber.

Rock & Roll

Rock & Roll

Rock & RollLiterally, the hardest thing for any rig operator is to keep the truck on the road once the center of balance gets the least bit off.

This rig carrying a load of rocks got off the pavement just enough to send it into the ditch.

That’s a heavy cleanup and a hard rock way to end the day.

Meat Packing

When 60000 lbs of meat go bad it really goes bad.

Fortunately no one was injured in this roll over but Big Rig had to use a number of tools in its arsenal to recover and right this rig.

With a little help from friends in the field the truck was soon righted and sent on its way for repair.

All Decked Out

Rollover RigSometimes the cleanup of an accident site takes longer than the actual recovery of the rig.

That was the case with this truck full of cedar that rolled on highway #1 near Gleichen. No one was injured but it did take all day to clean up the lumber that was strewn everywhere.

That’s just part of the job that Big Rig Towing faces whenever they are called to an accident scene but if you’re looking for that cedar deck you ordered it might take a while before you get it.
