Big Rig Continuing Education

Here are some great pics of the Big Rig Crews keeping up with their continuing education, creating mock situations that represent possible and extreme situations that they may find themselves in. Practice in these cases can make decision making easier and create a safer environment for everyone involved in a crash or a rollover. Big Rig Towing welcomes the chance to rehearse rescues and check equipment all while helping some of Calgary’s Fire Fighting finest practice their rescue skills as well.

More Than Just a Tow

You have to be able to do more than just tow rigs. This rollover needed expert clean up and a knowledge of chemicals on board so the tanker could be drained for transport.

Burn Out

At Big Rig Towing we aren’t always called out to rescue some rig that has gotten stuck in the snow or a ditch in rough weather. It’s not always an accident where wreckage is strewn all over and there is a broken rig that needs righting or towing.

Sometimes it’s just a large piece of equipment that has met it’s end to soon. Like this big excavator that just got burned out at the job.

We just picked it up and took it to be scrapped.

Off Ramp Rollover

Many times weather and to much speed are the main elements that cause accidents. In this case watch while a rig with just enough speed coupled with inclement weather loses control on an off ramp and hits the ditch.

Don’t Get Stuck in a Rut

D9 CatThe D9 Cat is an awesome 23 feet of earth moving bulldozer. Weighing in at anywhere from 8 to 104 tons, this giant can go almost any were and move almost anything. However that kind of weight can also sink pretty fast into mud or soft earth if not kept on the move when trying to plow through it.

It isn’t very often you need help to get this cat out of the mud but every now and then even the D9 can get in over its head.

Two of our biggest rigs had a hard time to get this cat unstuck and back to work.

69th Annual Conference

The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association hosted its 69th Annual Conference and Trade Show at the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, Calgary, Alberta, on Sunday, May 29th and Monday, May 30th, 2016.

In support of this event Big Rig Towing & the Global Training Center set up a static display demonstrating what first responders face on Alberta Highways.

Many event goers were surprised at the role that towing companies like Big Rig Towing play in the rescue and recovery of victims and vehicles involved in accidents on our Provinces highways.

Big Rig Meets Building Head On

A truck that was originally heading south in the #2 highway in Alberta took a small detour. He crossed the road, thought the meridian, across north bound lanes, through a wire fence, accessed a secondary road hit three vehicles and before ending up in the Glover Truck’s main building finally coming to rest passenger side down.
.
Fortunately the only injuries that occurred were in Glover’s shop where two mechanics suffered minor injuries. The truck driver himself got away with a broken arm.
.
The big loser was the building which needed to be structurally secured before Big Rig Towing could remove not only one of Glover’s pickup trucks but the offending truck and trailer as well.
.
All we can say is WOW!
