Flip This House

This recovery was a little different than most.

When half a house comes off the back of a rig it could be a recipe for disaster. Fortunately no one was living in the house at the time of this accident and the half a home ended up in the ditch not on top of a following car.

That did not make the recovery any easier as the structure had to be tilted upright and then craned back onto a flat deck for transport.

Lucky for the owners Big Rig Towing trains specifically for these odd scenarios and was ready with the equipment needed to do the job.

Holy Cow

You can never be too careful when negotiating a corner especially when carrying a load of cows.
Righting this rig with the rotator wasn’t the tricky part of this recovery, unloading and managing a herd of cows however was a whole other kind of recovery.
All’s well that ends well as the noisy bovines were transferred to another cattle carrier and Big Rig Towing hauled the ditched rig back onto the road.

What Can You Tow

towing-anythingAccording to Wikipedia towing is the process of coupling one object to another’s, so that one can be pulled along behind the other. The towing source (lead object) is usually a truck or other motorized land vehicle. The coupling may consist of a chain, rope, bar, integrated platform, or some other means of keeping the two objects together while in motion.

So, that being said, not just cars and trucks can be towed but almost anything that will move can be towed.

Just remember that not all vehicles are made to tow and the safety considerations of properly towing another vehicle or object cannot be understated.

When in doubt, hire a professional.

Flood Damage

Not all towing is confined to broken down or rolled rigs. Sometimes heavy equipment has been damaged and needs the towing power of a big diesel to move it.

Last year’s floods in Calgary not only caused millions of dollars in personal and commercial damage but many vehicles were destroyed as well.

Some of these machines are still in need of rescue and transport a year later.
This earth mover was caught by rising water and suffered catastrophic engine damage.

There is only one way to move something this big.

Big Rig Towing brought in the heavy crane and got it safely stored on this trailer for transport.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practice RolloverEver wonder why Big Rig Towing in Calgary, Alberta recovers more big rig rollovers than anyone else.

Practice.

That’s right practice makes perfect. How can you control a situation if you have never been in it before or if you have new equipment that you have never had any training or used before?

The truth is, you can’t.

That is why Big Rig goes to great measures to instruct and update their crews and staff on the latest techniques and equipment updates so that every recovery becomes a success and not another accident scene.

Getting the job done safely and timely is what separates Big Rig Towing from its competitors.

All Decked Out

Rollover RigSometimes the cleanup of an accident site takes longer than the actual recovery of the rig.

That was the case with this truck full of cedar that rolled on highway #1 near Gleichen. No one was injured but it did take all day to clean up the lumber that was strewn everywhere.

That’s just part of the job that Big Rig Towing faces whenever they are called to an accident scene but if you’re looking for that cedar deck you ordered it might take a while before you get it.

Dangerous Roll Over

Roll overs are always tricky. Even more so when there is dangerous goods involved.

This roll over was no exception. Loaded with crude oil this tanker took some creative thinking on the part of our Big Rig Towing team to recover.

At the end of the day no one was hurt and the tanker was hauled off to the yard for investigation and repair.

A Bridge to Low

This happens more often than you would think.

This Truck with a full load of tires just didn’t make the height requirement needed to successfully get under this bridge. Not to mention it was a single lane bridge.

Traffic was held up for a while but Big Rig Towing pulled it free and towed it back to it’s yard for repair.

Lean To

The danger in trucking doesn’t always lay with poor road conditions or weather. It can be as simple as just not tying down the load properly.

How many times have you seen a big truck with an even bigger load trying to negotiate around a tight corner looking like it was going to topple over or a flat deck with a load wider than the deck and not looking like it was centered?

You can tie it down but if it’s not in the right place to begin with you’re going to have problems.

Big Rig Towing lifted this heavy 65000 pound steel coil from it’s deck after it shifted during transport. Not an easy task to pick it up and transfer it to another trailer.
