Be proactive & take note of Big Rig’s toll free number

It’s only a matter of time before winter rolls in to stay for awhile and as Canadians we all know that winter weather can be a challenge to negotiate out on the highway.

Sometimes it is almost impossible to see where the road ends and the ditch begins. Add blowing snow to the mix and the situation can get pretty sketchy in a split second. Under extreme conditions it is a testament to the drivers of big rigs that more don’t end up in the ditch.

When temperatures go below -30 ending up in the ditch, whether its day or night, presents a whole new set of problems. Not just for the driver of the rig, but for the tow truck operators as well. Keeping warm and safe while working with thousands of pounds of frozen steel is a difficult process. Because the human body is mostly made up of water and we know that water freezes at -32C, getting stuck in the ditch on a -40 night becomes more of a rescue than a tow.

The temperatures haven’t dipped that low yet, but why not be proactive and take note of Big Rig’s toll free number (866) 398-7444. Anywhere, any time, we’re available 24/7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements.

Winter’s coming!

A tow truck rotator is essentially a big crane mounted to the deck of the tow truck. It can be used for everything from:

  • lifting heavy machinery that has tumbled from the back of a rig
  • lifting a load that has flipped over
  • removing a load from a rig that needs less weight so it can be towed
  • lifting heavy equipment from one place to another
  • assisting in transferring cargo from one rig to another
  • And so much more…

Big Rig Towing has a number of rotator tow trucks and can boast that they have the only 75-ton rotator in southern Alberta. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.

We pull our fair share of hapless rigs and heavy equipment from any number of situations.

A little off-kilter

The danger in trucking doesn’t always lay with poor road conditions or weather. It can be as simple as your load shifting and affecting your centre of balance. This large load of sand and gravel threw this extremely heavy truck off kilter and over it went!

You can never be too careful when rescuing heavy machinery. Oftentimes the recovery is more about the logistics of lifting the equipment that has flipped over after an incident. Big Rig Towing works with highly qualified and certified technicians which can make all the difference in getting your precarious situation resolved quickly and safely.

Yikes, fire in the hole!

It’s never good when a fire breaks out in your trailer. Whatever the cause the best case scenario is that no one gets hurt.

The fire in this trailer actually burned through the side before it could be contained and totally devastated its cargo and destroyed the trailer itself. Big Rig Towing made short work of lifting the disabled trailer and getting it on to a flatbed for transport.

Anywhere, anytime, Big Rig Towing & Recovery is available 24/7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements and have a solid reputation for doing heavy lifting and moving.

No matter what situation you find yourself in, Big Rig is ready to come to the rescue!

A tow truck rotator is essentially a big crane mounted to the deck of the tow truck and can be used for everything from lifting heavy machinery fallen from rigs that have flipped over or for removing a load from a rig that needs less weight so it can be towed. It can also lift heavy equipment from one place to another or assist in getting cargo off one rig onto another.

Big Rig Towing has a number of rotator tow trucks and can boast having the only 75-ton sliding rotator in Southern Alberta. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely, especially once the weather gets cold the highways become more treacherous.

In addition to our 75-ton sliding rotator, our heavy duty towing and recovery division consists of fifteen units, thirteen tandem axle and two tri-drive units. All fifteen trucks are equipped with under reaches for damage free towing.

To complement the wreckers we have a modern, state-of-the-art, fully equipped air cushion recovery unit for up-righting rolled over tractor trailer units. Should the need arise we also have replacement tractors to tow your trailers, loaded or empty.

Rollovers happen…we can help!

Somehow this roller got turned over in the process of compacting gravel. These 40,000 lb. rollers are extremely heavy, but surprisingly it only takes a few degrees off-centre for even something this big to roll. If you’re big and heavy, and overturned, you simply need something bigger and heavier and more rigid to set you upright again.

As you can see from the images below, for this heavy rescue it took a couple of Big Rig’s tow trucks and cranes to upright this roller onto a flatbed.

Big Rig Towing pulls its fair share of hapless rigs and heavy equipment from any number of situations.

Big Rig Towing transports forklift

Big Rig Towing not only rescues broken down rigs, but as heavy haulers, we have the heavy duty towing equipment to haul just about anything. In this case, our client had to relocate a forklift. The average forklift can weigh between 1800 to 4500 kg — just too big and heavy for a normal tow truck.

Transporting a forklift needs to be done safely & efficiently. It must be secured properly to the flatbed of the truck with wheels secured so it doesn’t tilt or even fall off the bed. This is important to keep the forklift from damage, but more importantly, securing the forklift properly protects the vehicle driver and any surrounding persons/vehicles during on-load, transport, and off-load.

Big Rig Towing has a solid reputation for doing heavy lifting and moving. We work with highly qualified and certified technicians who are reliable and experienced.

If you find yourself in a disabled situation or have a piece of heavy equipment to haul, give Big Rig Towing a shout. Call 1 (866) 398-7444. We’re available 24/7 for all your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements.

In a precarious situation? Big Rig to the rescue

What do you do when your crane gets blown over? Call in more cranes of course!

Big Rig Towing & Recovery used two of their biggest cranes to right this one when it was blown over in high winds. The job was a little trickier than it looked, but Big Rig takes great pains to update and train their operators for just this type of situation.

Big Rig can do more than just tow your distressed rig or your heavy equipment. We have a solid reputation for doing heavy lifting and moving. If you find yourself in a disabled or precarious situation give us a shout. To reach us toll free, call 1 (866) 398-7444. We offer 24/7 dispatch service.

When to Use a Sand Wedge

Positioning a load is critical. Too much weight on one side or the other can have catastrophic consequences.

This truck hauling sand had its hydraulics literally pulled out from under it when the sand shifted causing the dump bed to twist away from the frame and turn the trailer over. Big Rig Towing made quick work righting and getting the broken pieces back to the shop for repair.

We have a number of rotator tow trucks and can boast that we have the only 75-ton rotator in southern Alberta. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.
