69th Annual Conference

The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association hosted its 69th Annual Conference and Trade Show at the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, Calgary, Alberta, on Sunday, May 29th and Monday, May 30th, 2016.

In support of this event Big Rig Towing & the Global Training Center set up a static display demonstrating what first responders face on Alberta Highways.

Many event goers were surprised at the role that towing companies like Big Rig Towing play in the rescue and recovery of victims and vehicles involved in accidents on our Provinces highways.

Big Rig Towing regularly participates in training exercises that keep them up to date with the latest methods in rescue techniques and equipment.

Speed Rolls

It always comes down to how fast your going. This rig rolled because of excessive speed. When you have 40,000 lbs on board one small move and it’s a disaster. Fortunately no one was hurt and Big Rig Towing got the rig back on its wheels and off to repair.

Owners/Operators Towing Rights

Did you know that if your car breaks down or if you have a flat tire let’s say on the side of an intercity highway, as long as it is a non-investigative incident, and no inspection or safety examination are required post-collision, you can call your proffered towing company and do not have to accept a tow from the first responding company on site.

Big Rig Towing posed the question to the City last month to find out what the policy was on this towing question. Turns out you can call any towing company your prefer.

Rotator

photo 4A tow truck rotator is essentially a big crane mounted to the deck of the tow truck and can be used for everything from lifting heavy machinery fallen from rigs that have flipped over or for removing a load from a rig that needs less weight so it can be towed. It can also lift heavy equipment from one place to another to assist in getting cargo off one rig onto another.

Big Rig Towing has a number of rotator tow trucks and they are constantly in use. Especially once the weather gets cold the highways become more treacherous. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.

Earth Day 2016: Five Inspiring Facts and How to do Your Bit

Rescue, Recover, Towing

Towing is defined as the process of coupling one object to another, so that one can be pulled along behind the other. It is commonly used to describe the moving of, or in the seizure of, a vehicle.

In Big Rig Towing’s case the terms recovery or rescue is also used along with towing.

Sometimes the recovery of a big rig is not about hooking it up and getting it to repair but more about the logistics of recovering the rig after it has left the road. A somewhat more dangerous scenario than towing a vehicle that is still on its wheels.

Big Rig Towing makes hundreds of these rescue, recoveries every year and while they all present individual challenges they are all resolved at the end of the day.
