Anywhere, anytime, Big Rig Towing & Recovery is available

At Big Rig Towing & Recovery  – CALGARY, AIRDRIE & RED DEER, ALBERTA – we’re committed to continue providing services during these challenging times, in a modified, safe and socially distant way.

Sunday morning Big Rig Towing & Recovery was called to the rescue! Near Cluny, Alberta at Hwy 1 and 210, this big rig plowed through a guard rail and plunged into a Bow River channel.  As is often the case, it’s difficult to speculate on what actually occurred since the weather was good and the driver didn’t seem to be caught off-guard due to any adverse conditions.

Vehicle rollovers can be one of the most frightening accidents and can happen in the blink of an eye. Fortunately in this case the best news is that no one was hurt in the mishap.

Big Rig Towing & Recovery works with highly qualified and certified technicians and are reliable and experienced. We can be reached toll free at 1 (866) 398-7444. We’re available 24/7 for all your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements.

Meantime…be safe. be healthy. be strong. be positive.

Assisting customers during the current Coronavirus outbreak

We are committed to continue providing services during these challenging times, only in a modified, safe and socially distant way.

Tipsy Cat…

You can never be too careful when using heavy machinery in unfamiliar or rugged terrain. This excavator took a tumble in an out-of-the-way location, but we solved the issue with our 75-ton sliding rotator and got it back up on it’s feet and back on the job.

Our heavy duty towing and recovery division consists of not only our  75-ton rotator, but fifteen units, thirteen tandem axle and two tri-drive units. All fifteen trucks are equipped with under reaches for damage free towing. To complement the wreckers we have a modern, state-of-the-art, fully equipped air cushion recovery unit for up-righting rolled over tractor trailer units.  Fleet details »

Big Rig Towing can do more than just tow your distressed rig or heavy equipment. We have a solid reputation for doing heavy lifting and moving. Should the need arise we also have replacement tractors to tow your trailers, loaded or empty.

We do more than towing & recovery!

Not all Big Rig Towing jobs are the recovery of crashed or stuck rigs. Sometimes it’s as simple as a big, heavy snowfall.

When a parked rig has a large amount of snow on its roof it can’t just take off down the road. If the truck gets up to speed and a few hundred pounds of snow comes flying off, it could cause damage to the vehicles following, or worse, send a trailing vehicle into an oncoming lane. Definitely not a good situation.

Not all solutions have to be complicated hookups or rotator coordinated events either. This snow removal campaign was remedied by hooking up a volunteer shoveller to the rotator and hoisting them on top of the rig to get rid of its snowy burden.

Keep Big Rig’s number – 1 (866) 398-7444 – on hand and call for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service if you find yourself in an emergency situation!

Towing, Recovery or Rescue

Towing is defined as the process of coupling one object to another, so that one can be pulled along behind the other. It is commonly used to describe the moving of, or in the seizure of, a vehicle.

In Big Rig Towing’s case the terms recovery or rescue is also used along with towing.

Sometimes the recovery of a big rig is not about hooking it up and getting it to repair, but more about the logistics of recovering the rig after it has left the road. A somewhat more dangerous scenario than towing a vehicle that is still on its wheels.

Big Rig Towing makes hundreds of these rescues and recoveries every year, and while they all present individual challenges, they are all resolved at the end of the day.

Big Rig Moves Shipping Containers

Big Rig Towing can do more than just tow Rigs.

Over the years big rig towing has moved many different objects that require a large flat deck and heavy duty equipment.

This time it’s a Container Housing Unit.

A Containerized Housing Unit, usually abbreviated as CHU (and sometimes called Containerized Living Unit or CLU) is the name given to an ISO shipping containers. These containers are  pre-fabricated into a living quarters and can be used any where from construction sites to school yards.

This time the housing unit was being moved from one job site to another but Big Rig has moved similar housing units in the past when we re-located student portables for a Calgary School district.

High Wind Rig Rollover

Big Rig Towing Wind Blown Roll OverHigh Winds Capsize Big Rig Trailer

There are not very many places on earth where 120 kilometre wind gusts are common. Southern Alberta is one of those places.

When Chinook winds decide to blow the broad side of a big rig is nothing but a big sail and wind related roll overs are a common occurrence.

Big Rig Towing was able to right this rig and get it to repair.

More of a timely rescue than a tow

Sometimes it is almost impossible to see where the road ends and the ditch begins. Add blowing snow to the mix and the equation becomes even harder to discern. Under extreme conditions it is a testament to the drivers of big rigs that more don’t end up in the ditch.

When temperatures go below -30 ending up in the ditch, whether day or night, presents a whole new set of problems. Not just for the driver of the rig but for the tow truck operators as well. Keeping warm and safe while working with thousands of pounds of frozen steel is a difficult process.

Because the human body is mostly made up of water and we know that water freezes at -32C getting stuck in the ditch on a -40 degree night becomes more of a timely rescue than a tow.

We hope you never find yourself in this position, but rest assured if you do, Big Rig Towing & Recovery offers 24/7 dispatch service!
