We do more than towing & recovery!

Not all Big Rig Towing jobs are the recovery of crashed or stuck rigs. Sometimes it’s as simple as a big, heavy snowfall.

When a parked rig has a large amount of snow on its roof it can’t just take off down the road. If the truck gets up to speed and a few hundred pounds of snow comes flying off, it could cause damage to the vehicles following, or worse, send a trailing vehicle into an oncoming lane. Definitely not a good situation.

Not all solutions have to be complicated hookups or rotator coordinated events either. This snow removal campaign was remedied by hooking up a volunteer shoveller to the rotator and hoisting them on top of the rig to get rid of its snowy burden.

Keep Big Rig’s number – 1 (866) 398-7444 – on hand and call for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service if you find yourself in an emergency situation!

Towing, Recovery or Rescue

Towing is defined as the process of coupling one object to another, so that one can be pulled along behind the other. It is commonly used to describe the moving of, or in the seizure of, a vehicle.

In Big Rig Towing’s case the terms recovery or rescue is also used along with towing.

Sometimes the recovery of a big rig is not about hooking it up and getting it to repair, but more about the logistics of recovering the rig after it has left the road. A somewhat more dangerous scenario than towing a vehicle that is still on its wheels.

Big Rig Towing makes hundreds of these rescues and recoveries every year, and while they all present individual challenges, they are all resolved at the end of the day.

More of a timely rescue than a tow

Sometimes it is almost impossible to see where the road ends and the ditch begins. Add blowing snow to the mix and the equation becomes even harder to discern. Under extreme conditions it is a testament to the drivers of big rigs that more don’t end up in the ditch.

When temperatures go below -30 ending up in the ditch, whether day or night, presents a whole new set of problems. Not just for the driver of the rig but for the tow truck operators as well. Keeping warm and safe while working with thousands of pounds of frozen steel is a difficult process.

Because the human body is mostly made up of water and we know that water freezes at -32C getting stuck in the ditch on a -40 degree night becomes more of a timely rescue than a tow.

We hope you never find yourself in this position, but rest assured if you do, Big Rig Towing & Recovery offers 24/7 dispatch service!

Big rig problems need Big Rig Towing

There are some big jobs that you wouldn’t think would be a part of your company mandate. But that is the great thing about Big Rig Towing, we have the philosophy that where there’s a will there’s a way.

A snow-coach is a specialized passenger transport vehicle, designed to operate over snow or ice. These vehicles have multiple sets of very large low pressure tires or snow tracks. They can seat as many as ten or more passengers and are often used for sightseeing tours or for over-snow transportation such as tours of the Columbia Icefields in Banff National Park.

This snow-coach was in need of a complete overhaul and Big Rig used their rotator crane to lift the body off the chassis so both could be rebuilt and put back into service.

Even a vehicle constructed specifically for the cold and ice needs a rescue now and then. If you find yourself in an emergency situation

Big Rig Towing Professional Towing

In an emergency? Need a tow truck rotator?

A tow truck rotator is essentially a big crane mounted to the deck of the tow truck. It can be used for everything from:

  • lifting heavy machinery that has tumbled from the back of a rig
  • lifting a load that has flipped over
  • removing a load from a rig that needs less weight so it can be towed
  • lifting heavy equipment from one place to another
  • assisting in transferring cargo from one rig to another
  • And so much more…

Big Rig Towing has a number of rotator tow trucks and can boast that they have the only 75 ton rotator in southern Alberta. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.

We pull our fair share of hapless rigs and heavy equipment from any number of situations.

Keep Big Rig’s number – 1 (866) 398-7444 – on hand and call for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service if you find yourself in a precarious situation.

Crane Rescue

Winter road conditions can get pretty sketchy!

It’s only a matter of time before winter rolls in to stay for awhile and as Canadians we all know that winter weather can be a challenge to negotiate out on the highway.

When temperatures go below -30 ending up in the ditch, whether its day or night, presents a whole new set of problems. Not just for the driver of the rig, but for the tow truck operators as well. Because the human body is mostly made up of water and we know that water freezes at -32C, getting stuck in the ditch on a -40 night becomes more of a rescue than a tow.

Anywhere, any time, Big Rig Towing & Recovery is available 24-7 to service all of your heavy duty towing and recovery requirements.

Cold Storage Rollover

It’s always good to keep your meat cold to prevent it from spoiling, but a rollover in cold temperatures is definitely not the ideal way to preserve it! When this rig rolled over some of the load scattered and not long after Big Rig Towing was onsite to right the rig and rescue what was left of the valuable cargo.

Vehicle rollovers can be one of the most frightening accidents and can happen in the blink of an eye. Fortunately in this case the best news is that no one was hurt in the mishap.
