To the rescue!

The Deerfoot Trail transects the city of Calgary. A busy 3-lane freeway with a 100 km an hour speed limit, it takes traffic south to north across the city and onto Edmonton. The city of Calgary has a great safety feature, that is, free service to all those who break down or run out of gas along this crowded stretch of road.

That’s right, if your car breaks down or has a flat, or even if you run out of gas, the city has tow trucks patrolling 24/7 and will aid or tow you to one of the safety zones created every so many kilometres along the route.

While this is a fantastic service it unfortunately does not include big rigs and other heavy equipment.

Big Rig Towing & Recovery specializes in this type of tow. Even though it may seem benign compared to rescuing big trucks from icy mountain passes or dragging them out of watery irrigation ditches and rivers, hooking up and towing on a busy highway at rush hour can be equally as dangerous as any mountain road.

If your rig is stranded on any Alberta road call the experts – Big Rig Towing 1 (866) 398-7444 for IMMEDIATE 24/7 service.

Resolve your towing emergency situation quickly & safely

It’s not always about how far in the ditch the rig is that makes a recovery hard, sometimes it’s the actual load itself. This load of lumber ended up in the ditch with 80,000 lbs on board!

Big Rig Towing spent the best part of the afternoon unloading and hauling the cargo before they could get the rig out of the mud and back on dry pavement.

Here at Big Rig, we have a number of rotator tow trucks and they are constantly in use. An expert rotator operator can make all the difference in getting your towing situation resolved quickly and safely.

Stuck in the mud? Big Rig to the rescue!

Your rig is not an off-road vehicle. If you have inadvertently ended up off the hardtop and are carrying a heavy load, you are probably in trouble.

Spring rains and snow make roadsides and fields wet and soft turning them into mud traps. If your rig gets stuck in the mud, it can be a real hair puller to get it unstuck. Mud likes to suck in and trap axles from forward or backward movement. When you spin the tires in an attempt to free them, they will only sink the truck further into the mud and make the situation worse.

You can try to dig some mud out from the front end of the leading wheels and then nudge the rig forward slowly until you gain solid ground, but if that fails call the professionals.

Big Rig Towing will save you a whole lot of effort and back pain. We have the equipment to pick up trailer and load and place them back safely and quickly back on the black top and get you on your way.

Keep your rig in perfect condition & operating at peak efficiency

Spring’s upon us (at least we hope!) and while it’s a beautiful thing, it also means the roads and highways will be a slushy mess and keeping your rig pristine will take a little more effort!

Your rig is your livelihood so it’s critical to keep it in perfect condition and operating at peak efficiency.

It is an expensive piece of equipment so keeping it clean and running smoothly is not only a great responsibility that may take some time and maintenance, but more importantly it’s your best defense to avoid trouble while out on the road. After all, you don’t want to worry about forced downtime and loss of time and income.

A well-maintained and properly functioning rig can help to ensure your safety and the safety of the drivers around you as well as add years to the life of your rig.

Before a long haul it’s important that you take the time to check your oil, inspect your radiator and your brakes, top up your fluids, grease moving parts, check the fuel vent, check your tires and of course, ensure your load is secured.

Keeping the interior clean is especially important especially if you’re “living” or spending long periods of time in it. It’s your home away from home and pride of ownership can make a difference to your comfort, your sleep, your quality of life and peace of mind.

Keeping the exterior clean can mean additional safety by cleaning your mirrors and cleaning your windows. By keeping it waxed and polished you add protection to your rig’s longevity.

Be pro-active! Creating your own preventive maintenance checklist for pre-trip inspection is definitely a great habit to get into to ensure everything runs smoothly ahead of time.

Slow down in foggy conditions

Fog and trains don’t mix when it comes to railway crossings and vehicles of any size.

Fog related accidents usually result in head-on and rear-end collisions, two of the most common fog related incidents. A recent study showed that more instances of fog related crashes occurred in the early morning hours from December to February.

Weather.com reports that annual averages are 31,385 crashes resulting in 511 deaths. Read more fog related facts on The Weather Channel https://wxch.nl/2uqbzsC

This rig ran amiss of a freight train in the fog and became of many like incidents that occur across the country in poor driving conditions.

Fortunately the driver was not injured and Big Rig Towing was able to use their 75-ton rotator to clear the wreckage and get the train on its way and the driver to safety.
